  • Learn about current theory and research behind weight lifting as an adjunctive treatment for trauma survivors [get a sneak peak into our ongoing research]

  • Develop an understanding of specific trauma-informed considerations for building and maintaining safety in fitness/gym spaces, as well as in the relationships with clients and athletes

  • Learn how your personal biases and perspectives may support or hinder your client’s process

  • Learn to leverage cueing, self/situation awareness, exercise selection, and relationship building to support your clients' process in increasing confidence and tolerance in light of traumatic history

This 30-hour training is designed for trainers, coaches, physical therapists, and movement practitioners that actively train clients with any weight training modality.

Mental health clinicians are also encouraged and welcome to attend.

Due to the nature of the material, attendance will be capped to allow for deeper discussion and workshopping.

This workshop will combine lecture, discussion, demonstrations, real life case examples and opportunities for applied, (virtual) hands-on learning. The structure of this training will be a combination of synchronous in person sessions and asynchronous self-directed activities such as readings, videos, reflections and assignments to apply your learning.

This program is for professional development and learning. We recognize that although many of us may have experiences of trauma, the time we spend together will not be an intervention for our own individual healing. Talking and learning about trauma, even in the context of a training, can be triggering.
